The initiative coincides with World Mental Health Day on October 10 and aims to raise awareness of mental health in the local community.

It is also hoped that the events taking place throughout the week will provide a forum to generate discussion and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, as well as highlighting the range of supports and services available locally.

Limerick Mental Health Awareness Week has been going from strength to strength over the past decade in the city, supported by the Limerick Mental Health Association.

Currently coordinated by Amanda Clifford of UL, the network of organisations involved includes HSE Mid West Suicide Prevention Office, Grow, Samaritans, Mental Health Ireland, Doras Luimní, the Mens Shed Association, and SMRC Urban Run.

All events are free and all are welcome to attend.
