Shortly after 11:30pm on Saturday night last, the alarm was raised after the woman was seen  entering the water near Steamboat Quay, just a short distance from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue boat pontoon.

A couple who were nearby managed to throw a lifebuoy which the woman held onto until the Fire Service arrived.

Within minutes of the alarm being raised, units from Fire Service, Gardai, HSE emergency paramedics and members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue were at the scene.

Two swift water rescue technicians from Limerick City Fire and Rescue service entered the water and secured the woman until she was brought aboard the Fireswift rescue boat and handed over to the HSE ambulance service.
