Lyons, a talented outhalf and centre, has also played 7’s rugby for Ireland, while leading Young Munster to two All Ireland League Semi Finals in two seasons.

Costello and Lyons will already be joined by Jordan Coughlan, while the Sherwood Forest club are also expected to announce the signing of Munster’s Shane Buckley in the coming days.

Statement from Nottingham Rugby

“The 21 year-old Irishman joins from the PRO12 giant’s academy side, where he has also featured in a number of British & Irish Cup matches over the past two seasons, making his debut for Munster A against Stirling County in October 2013 and making his first start in a quarter final against Doncaster Knights back in January 2015.

Lyons has also captained the Ireland Men’s 7 squad and was selected to take part in the IRFU training camp for U20s in November 2013.

Born in Limerick, the 180 cm, 89 kg attacker will follow his current assistant coach to The Bay, with Ian Costello preparing to take over the Green and Whites’ head coach role later this summer.

Lyons will be competing for the starting #10 jersey with fellow fly halves Lawrence Rayner and Will Millett, and quickly follows the announcement of Dan Mugford’s recent move to Sale Sharks.

Director of rugby Simon Beatham was delighted to have secured the promising youngster’s signature for the new season, saying:

“Gearoid is a player we’ve had our eye on for a while and will be a great fit for us here at The Bay.

“He’s quick, he’s competitive and he’s got bags of potential and I’ve no doubt that he’ll settle in well and start battling for that starting jersey with the other boys.”

Lyons is the second player to join Nottingham from Munster this summer, with flanker Jordan Coughlan signing in April.

With more signing news due to come out of Lady Bay before the end of the week, please keep checking the club’s official website and social media for the latest updates.”
