Opinion – Examples Everywhere for England

Screen shot 2016-06-30 at 10.10.34ENJOYING England’s exit from major football tournaments is a pastime at this point that almost everyone enjoys. Yes, we support those players week in, week out, for their clubs, but the overall national arrogance associated with team England (their fans don’t always enamour themselves either, of course) allows all those who follow sport to have a wry smile as it all falls to pieces once more.
The question this column asks is, how have England not learned by now? Did they not see Leicester, Connacht, Iceland and Wales’ performances this season? Winning is not about and will never be about money. Yes, teams in some sports have the money to buy the ‘best’ players, but those teams only win due to tactical, technical and skillful execution of their art. England will always have the best paid, but when will they realise that sometime they are going to need the best players?
