Limerick teenagers show get up and go spirit

-

IMG_3214RATHER than sitting around twiddling their thumbs playing video games this summer, five adventurous Limerick teenagers pedalled 800km to raise funds for Milford Hospice.

Crescent Comprehensive College students Kevin Le Gear, James Mullins, Luke Reilly, Aidan Earlie and Hugh Conlon decided to sign up for the Malin to Mizen Head Cycle.

It took the energetic Limerick boys eleven days to complete the gruelling cycle from County Donegal to County Cork, raising over €1,500 for a very worthy cause en route.

“We heard about the Malin to Mizen cycle and we were already big into cycling so we just decided to go for it,” Hugh Conlon from Dooradoyle told the Limerick Post.

“Around once a week throughout the entire summer, we went on practice cycles around the same distances we would be cycling on the actual trip – cycling out to Nenagh and back. The cycle itself was roughly 800 kilometres and it took us 11 days. It was tiring but our training prepared us well enough for it.

“Our parents were extremely supportive throughout it and the company Stoneage Crecora were a big help on sponsoring the cycling gear.

“We decided to collect for Milford because it’s a great cause, it’s local and we know people involved in the running of it and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience and we loved every second of it,” said Hugh.
