Shannon to rescue as flights diverted

Shannon Airport confirmed today (Wednesday) that it handled 14 flight diversions from Dublin Airport starting from 04.20 am this morning. Among the latest flights to divert to Shannon following the temporary closure of Dublin Airport are:

·         FR311 from Luton

·         FR4283 from Bratislava

·         KL933 from Amsterdam

·         EI149 from London Heathrow

·         LH2516 from Munich

·         AC842 from Toronto

·         E1124 from Chicago Ohare

While Dublin and Cork Airports have had to close for periods, Shannon Airport was fully operational throughout last night and remains fully operational today.

Two inbound and outbound Shannon services to Edinburgh (EI3675/72) and Birmingham (EI3638/39) were cancelled.

A Shannon Airport spokeswoman said: “We are currently managing our own weather challenges and will continue to do so over the coming days. Due to the possibility of flight cancellations and delays at other airports, Shannon Airport is advising passengers intending to fly from, or travel to, Shannon Airport to contact their relevant airline or look at their website in advance of their journeys with regard to any potential weather impacts.

In the event that there are delays or changes to schedule, we will post same on our twitter account @shannonairport our facebook pagewww.facebook.com/shannon.airport.official and on our website www.shannonairport.ie as soon as we are notified.  People travelling to the airport are also welcome to contact our information desk at 061 712000 for any updates before making their journey.”

Flights that diverted earlier this morning were:

·         EI 100 from Newark

·         EI 104 from JFK

·         EI 130 from Hartford Connecticut

·         EI 136 from Boston (which later returned to Shannon)

·         ET 504 from Addis Ababa

·         ET 500 from Addis Ababa

·         TNT Cargo from Liege
