Arrested man released over Shannon fatal stabbing

A 19-YEAR-old teenager arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Limerick man in Clare has been released without charge.

Gardai in Shannon are now preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions after 23-year-old Jamie Higgins was stabbed to death on St Patrick’s night.

Mr Higgins, who had been out socialising with family and friends at the Shannon Knights night club, was involved in an altercation when the fatal wounds were delivered.

Originally from Limerick, Mr Higgins had been visiting the area when the dispute arose.

Gardai are now reviewing extensive CCTV footage of the area and the scene in a bid to ascertain evidence which will lead to the prosecution and convict Mr Higgins’ killer.

A post mortem examination carried out on the remains of Mr Higgins will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

Another man injured was understood to be injured in the altercation and was hospitalised.
