Limerick teen road victim named as tributes flow online

THE death of a 17-year-old Limerick teenager in a road traffic collision in Ballyneety has been referred to the Garda Siocahana Ombudsman for investigation after the vehicle in which the teenager was traveling in was involved in an earlier interaction with gardai.

Gardai and GSOC are now investigating the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash at Tubberyquinn, Ballyneety, just after midnight on Tuesday morning March 20 where Gearoid Sheehy Ahern lost his life. 

The black car in which the Ballinacurra Weston teen was traveling in hit a ditch on the road it was traveling on and was catapulted almost 30 feet into an adjacent field.

Tragically, the Greenmount Avenue teenager was fatally injured and three other males were injured, one seriously, when the black, 2005 Dublin registered Mazda 6, they were travelling in, struck a ditch.

Three other injured teens all understood to be aged 17, were being treated at University Hospital Limerick with one believed to be in a serious condition.

The incident has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission as a result of earlier interaction between the crashed car and Gardaí.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station are asking witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information, to contact them on 061 214340.

Former Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh schoolmates of Gearoid have been paying tributes online to the young teen who lost his life in the crash.

Funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
