Limerick’s 202s return with textured electronic pop

THE 202s released their debut album in 2009 when Limerick’s Mike Glennon (vocals/guitar/ synths) and Steve Melling (bass/synths) retreated to the studio after the meltdown of a previous band. Positive press greeted the record which came out on Paris-based label, Le Son Du Maquis ( A Certain Ratio / Lydia Lunch).

It has been a while in the making but The 202s have returned with their second album ‘From When The Future Was Yet To Hurt Us’.

The time period between then and now has been little more than life – and making babies – and a writing block or two getting in the way, says Mike Glennon.

“We thought we’d just take a break, but after that it was, simply, life happening. Since we last made a record, The 202s have made five human beings!”

The album is a fabulous collection of textured electronic pop music, experimental but very accessible in the way Beck or Django Django can veer from willfully from radio-play gold to avant garde intrigue.

“The 202s are not a rock band, adds Glennon. “In fact, we see ourselves as more of a pop band.
“I’ve met so many people in music who have said they wish they could go back to the times when it was just them, their mates playing music, and drinking a few cans. The 202s have reached a point where we don’t feel the need to prove ourselves, or reach certain commercial levels.”
‘From When The Future Was Yet To Hurt Us’. is out now on Difference/Repetition. No Limerick date finalised yet.
