Paul Tynan – supreme jazz trumpeteer

Hanlon and Tynan, Wednesday 16

PLAYER, academic and composer Paul Tynan won kudos from The International Trumpeters’ Guild for his creative genius.

Check out their truth at Wednesday 16’s gig in Dolan’s when Limerick Jazz hosts the famous fella, backed by a quartet comprising American guitarist Jack Hanlon with our own Peter Hanagan on bass and John Daly, percussion.

The lowkey Tynan is a Professor of Music at St. Francis Xavier University where he teaches jazz trumpet, jazz history, and arranging. He co-leads the BiCoastal Collective with Grammy winning saxophonist Aaron Lington. This ensemble is dedicated to performing new composition across North America and Paul Tynan has also released ten recordings as a leader/co-leader on the Origin/ OA2, Armored, and NohJoh labels.

He has performed with numerous jazz artists such as The Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Chris Poter, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Jerry Bergonzi, Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Joel Frahm, and Matt Wilson.

Tynan is here on tour gigging with Jake Hanlon, a guitarist, educator, recording artist, composer and songwriter based in Nova Scotia Canada.
