JOIN Limerick Historical Society’s two hour ramble at Pery Square on Wednesday September 12, 7pm meeting at the People’s Park gate by Limerick City Gallery of Art.

Society founder, the inimitable, irascible Tony Brown, will lead a group of enquiring minds through the architecture that is rich with history and in productive use today. Tony cites St Michael’s Church (of Ireland) as first on the list, “Limerick’s real sinking church,” he says emphatically. “Everyone thinks the sinking church is on Henry Street. It is not.”

Moving forward to No. 1 Pery Square, the luxe hotel that used to be the rent office for the agent to the land-owning Barrington family. A nod to Limerick Arts Office’s Culture House that was restored to elegance and utility by Limerick Civic Trust when Denis Leonard, God rest him, and Dorothy Meaney led events.

The tour is free to all and Tony Brown knows his onions from a carrot top. Tel 061-228071.
