GARDAÍ have warned that prosecutions will follow the seizure of 12 boxes of fireworks valued at €2,000 from a car that was stopped in Clarina last week. A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after two men, aged in their 20s and 30s were arrested and questioned at Henry Street Garda Station.

Crime Prevention Officer Sergt Ber Leetch said that “fireworks can cause serious risk and distress to neighbours, pets and animals. They can seriously injure hands, face and hearing as well as causing permanent scarring, loss of fingers and third-degree burns. They are illegal and there are serious penalties for their possession including a €10,000 fine and/or five years in prison.”
