Declan and Louise spring into Ballyhoura

-

WITH the first flush of mild weather, Ballyhoura Country is getting into gear by launching an active spring programme with a varied series of events taking place in February.

The Ballyhoura Biking Blitz on this Thursday, February 14 features cross country mountain bike categories for all ages and skill levels.  The Social Scavenger Hunt on Saturday will comprise of an afternoon of fun and games in Glenosheen Woods.

Spin South West and Classic Hits FM presenter, Louise Cantillon teamed up with Limerick’s All-Ireland winning hurling captain Declan Hannon to launch the spring programme last weekend.

Ballyhoura Country is renowned for its wild beauty and the couple were treated to dramatic views and even some snow as they took to the trails.

Starting from the Trailriders depot in Ardpatrick, Louise and Declan proved themselves up to the challenge by hiking the Blackrock Trailhead.

“This is really Limerick’s hidden gem. It’s such a peaceful retreat regardless of the weather,” said Louise.

“There’s nothing nicer than looking out the window at the beautiful view in front of an open fire, and waking up for a morning hike on your doorstep”.

Also taking place this month is the Glenbrohane Fun Run on February 17 in aid of The Local Hub Project. It sets off from Glenbrohane Church at 12pm with tickets available on Eventbrite.

On February 19, you can find out what makes a Super full moon special with a fun interactive presentation. Weather permitting, there will be a short moon viewing walk following the presentation.

A second “Step into Spring” 5km walk organised by the Limerick Sports Partnership in conjunction with Ballyhoura Beo will take place at Lough Gur on Saturday, February 23, starting at the Lough Gur Heritage Centre at 11am.
