RTÉ have announced that they will close down the Limerick studios and that Lyric FM will be relocating to Cork and Dublin studios.

It’s part of a revised strategy for the state broadcaster to cut costs between 2020 and 2023.

The cuts also include the sale of the RTÉ Guide magazine, the end of Aertel, cutting up to 200 jobs in 2020 and reduce the fees paid to top presenters by 15%.

“The news that RTE will close its Limerick studio is devastating. Limerick is Ireland’s third largest city and to think that our National Broadcaster would not have a base in the mid west region is unbelievable.

“Operating a news and current affairs service can’t simply be done from the booth of a car or the side of the road. I am calling on RTE to ensure that there’s an appropriate studio and base in Limerick for the mid west region.” Deputy Niall Collins said.
