Gavan Calls for Clarity on Future of Shannon Doc Services

SINN Féin Senator Paul Gavan has called on Shannon Doc Services to provide clarity with regard to the future of service provision throughout the Limerick and Mid-West Region.
The Castleconnell based Senator confirmed that he has written to Shannon Doc seeking assurances that there are in fact no plans to downgrade the existing office network that operates across Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.
“I have received a number of concerns from users of the service and also from staff who fear that plans may be afoot to close some of the existing offices. Some offices such as the ones in Hospital and Shannon are presently closed whilst others in Newcastle West and Thurles only appear to be open on a part-time basis.
“There appears to be very little information coming back to staff about when these offcies will return to full operation and this is fueling fears for the future of the service. I know the workers union SIPTU have been seeking answers too, and I believe the matter has now been referred to the Workplace Relations Commission.” he said.
Senator Gavan concluded “It’s very important that management of Shannon Doc move quickly to rule out any office closures and give staff and patients alike the clarity they need. Clearly closing a vital service like a Shannon Doc office should be unthinkable at any time, but especially so during a pandemic.”
