COLLEGE radio station Wired FM has received two Gold Awards for their output. Broadcasting on 99.9FM in Limerick City, the station is celebrating 25 years on-air and transmits 60 hours of programming every Monday to Friday of the academic year.
The station took a Gold Award for their broadcast of Limerick’s upcoming hip hop stars playing live at The Record Room on Catherine Street. The broadcast captured the Limerick burgeoning rap scene and will serve as a valuable insight into the city’s music scene in 2019.

Wired FM Presents: PX Music live from the Record Room featured the full roster of PX Music acts along with some very special guests on the night took place in front of a packed and ecstatic crowd, engineered by sound engineer extraordinaire Liam Marley, when such things were still a proposition.

The Craol Community Radio Awards, the largest award of its kind in Ireland is dedicated to recognising and celebrating community radio. Speaking about the four hour Wired FM broadcast, they had this to say,
“Lightning in a bottle, capturing a moment in recent Irish music history, and one that is tied to the station. The audio *is* a little distorted in places, but you can overlook that due to the sheer energy conveyed. All the more evocative of the noise and crush of live music venues, now that we don’t have them anymore. The live broadcast, presenting and interviews are a complex proposition for young broadcasters.”

Wired FM was also awarded a GOLD award in the Commissioned Programme Category for their, “smartly produced and presented”’ World College Radio Day programme. The programme was part of this year’s World College Radio Day 24 hour Global Marathon. WCRD celebrates the contribution of young people as creators of innovative content and unites college radio stations from all around the world to bring awareness to the work and value they bring to broadcasting.
