Speculation mounts as Simon Zebo yet to sign Racing 92 contract

SIMON Zebo could yet be set for a spectacular return to Thomond Park. The 30 year-old winger and fullback’s contract with Racing 92 expires this Summer and is yet to ink a new deal with the Parisians.

Attractive

Back in February Zebo admitted that he had a big decision to make on his future.

The Corkman has thoroughly enjoyed life both on and off the field in Paris but concedes that playing for Munster and Ireland again is “very attractive” to him.

“I am very close to making a decision. Both options have a good side: I love my life in Paris, I would like to help Racing win the Champions Cup, but the idea of one day playing again in Munster and playing in the World Cup is also very attractive.”

Report

A fresh report from RMC Sport this week now reports that Zebo is likely to rejoin Munster based on information from the last few days.

The same report also states that Donnacha Ryan will not be offered a new deal but it is perhaps more likely that the 37 year-old will retire at the end of the campaign rather than re-sign for his home province. .

“Another Irishman could also leave this summer. This is the international winger Simon Zebo who has not yet received a proposal for an extension from his leaders.

“Zebo could return home at the end of the season and return to Munster, his former club. This is the trend of the last days.”

Fickou and Boffelli

French reports from last weekend suggested that Racing 92 are planning the big-money signing of Stade Francais’ Gael Fickou.

Les Bleus star Fickou would demand high wages that could well be made available by Zebo and Donnacha Ryan departing upon the completion of their contracts this May.

Fickou has played on the wing but is expected to partner French teammates Virimi Vakatawa in the centre.

Argentine winger Juan Imhoff, France’s Teddy Thomas and Wallaby fullback Kurtley Beale would still comprise a world class back three should Zebo depart the club.

Los Pumas fullback Emiliano Boffelli signed for Racing in December and his star-quality would also soften the blow.

Munster have refused to comment on the rumours in recent days but have not denied the talks.
