Call for Government action as 81 patients wait for beds in UHL

University Hospital Limerick

234 admitted patients are waiting for beds this morning, according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch. 185 patients are waiting in the emergency department, while 49 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.

INMO Assistant Director of Industrial Relations, Mary Fogarty, said:

“81 patients on trolleys in a highly infectious pandemic is utterly unacceptable. This level of overcrowding will almost certainly spread the virus and put staff and patients in danger.

“National government need to urgently intervene in UHL. The hospital has a hundred extra beds more than last year, but it still has the highest numbers of patients without beds in the country. Clearly something is going wrong.”
