LIMERICK will play Kerry in the semi-finals of the Munster Hurling Cup this Friday.
A historic win over Tipperary on Saturday was enough for Kerry to set up a meeting with the All-Ireland champions and defending Munster cup kingpins Limerick on Friday evening.
The Kingdom were full value for a 0-17 to 0-14 win over the Premier County in their quarter-final over the weekend.
Kerry led throughout the contest to earn a first ever win over Tipperary as they now turn attention to Limerick in the TUS Gaelic Grounds this Friday.
For three of Stephen Molumphy’s side, there will be conflicting loyalties with Paudie Ahern (Killeedy), Louis Dee and Niall Mulcahy (both Mungret St Pauls) a part of the Kerry set up.
Ahern, in particular, was in scintillating form for Kerry with 0-3 from play in the full forward line.
The Killeedy man was a part of the Limerick U21 side that captured All-Ireland honours in 2017 and will come up against former teammates in the likes of Sean Finn, Kyle Hayes, Cian Lynch, Aaron Gillane, Barry Nash and Tom Morrissey to name a couple from that side.
Mungret St Pauls shotstopper Louis Dee kept a clean sheet in his competitive debut for the Kingdom while clubmate Niall Mulcahy was named among the replacements. Mulcahy was in imperious form for his club during the autumn, notching seven goals as they steamrolled to the Premier Intermediate crown.
The current Munster Hurling Cup champions Limerick will make their 2022 bow on Friday when they entertain the Kingdom.
Throw in at the Gaelic Grounds is 7pm with the winners progressing to the final to face either Waterford or Clare who meet on the same evening.
The final is down for decision on Saturday the 22nd of January.
