LIMERICK City and County Council has been asked to take the necessary steps to ensure Askeaton is officially classified as a heritage town.
However local Fianna Fáil councillor Kevin Sheahan was told at a recent meeting of Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District that the Bord Fáilte scheme is no longer recognised by the Heritage Council.
“The town of Askeaton is classified as a Historic Town under the National Monuments Act. The local authority could examine the provision if entrance signage to emphasise the medieval status and importance of Askeaton,” said Senior Planner for the Council, Maria Woods.
