Man arrested in drugs operation released without charge

THE man arrested after Gardaí seized €700,000 of suspected heroin in a search operation on the Clare/Limerick border on Friday has been released without charge.

A statement released by the Garda press office this afternoon said that file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.

The man in his 60s who was arrested as part of the investigation had been detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act at Henry Street Garda Station.

This followed an extensive search were conducted on lands in the Ardnacrusha area by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit assisted by local Garda units, the Regional Dog Unit and members of the Defence Forces.

In the course of the searches, a quantity of what is believed to be heroin with an estimated value of €700,000 was recovered.

The seizure was part of Operation Tara which was launched by last July to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.

The drugs were forwarded to the Forensic Science Ireland laboratories for analysis.
