Limerick light will remember lives lost to Covid

Mayor Daniel Butler and Limerick Council chief executive Pat Daly lay a wreath during the Ceremony of Remembrance and Reflection

A BLUE light will burn from here on at City Hall to commemorate all who lost their lives to Covid and the people who did battle with the pandemic.

Leading a ceremony of remembrance and reflection at the weekend, Limerick Mayor Daniel Butler said the light will be a permanent reminder of those who died and the sacrifices made during the pandemic.

He paid tribute to the “indomitable spirit” of Limerick people who banded together during the worst of the pandemic.

The Mayor said it was a “great honour” to  be able to thank all those who “made extraordinary contributions in hugely testing times as society fought against consequences of the pandemic.

“I would also like to remember those who lost their lives over the past two years and their families and friends who were not able to say the goodbyes the would have liked or to mourn and grieve as we traditionally do,”
