Limerick Senator wants cost of living pay rises

Limerick Sinn Féin Senator Paul Gavan

LIMERICK Sinn Féin Senator Paul Gavan has called on the Government and the social partners to recognise the urgent need for pay rises to combat the rapidly rising cost of living.

He was responding to the announcement at the recent SIPTU national conference that the trade union will be opening negotiations with 2,500 companies across the State for pay rises to match inflation.

Senator Gavan has urged workers across Limerick to get organised if they are not already members of a trade union.

“For the past two years, frontline workers working in retail, healthcare, manufacturing and essential services have kept this country going through the most challenging of circumstances. Now those same workers are caught in the middle of a cost of living crisis,” he explained.
