Up to 1,500 ‘Zombie’ cars on Limerick roads

ALMOST €10 million worth of so-called ‘Zombie’ cars are currently on the roads in Limerick, according to figures compiled by car history check company MotorCheck.ie

The company identified 39,336 imported vehicles bought in Ireland that were actually salvaged cars and undocumented write offs in the UK.

The market value of the vehicles nationally exceeds €318 million. In Limerick County, the value of such vehicles was €2,589,108, and €7,231,059 in Limerick City.

This indicates that there may be between 1,000 and 1,500 ‘Zombie’ cars on Limerick roads.

Examples of Zombie cars were found currently for sale privately and on dealers’ forecourts with ‘all clear’ histories. Potential buyers are being urged to carry out full history checks on vehicles before purchasing.
