AHEAD of his two concerts in Thomond Park Stadium on Thursday and Friday, an analysis of the top 40 music chart has found that Ed Sheeran’s music is also the kindest to your ears.

Hearing test specialists Hidden Hearing analyzed the Irish top 40 chart with a calibrated CEM Sound Level Metre and found that ‘Overpass Graffiti’ by Ed Sheeran is the kindest on your ears, recording at a 50.0 decibel level on the calibrated device.

To gather the data, Hidden Hearing’s expert audiologists used a professionally calibrated CEM sound meter to record the decibel level of each song in Ireland’s Top 40 chart and found that Sheeran’s music is consistently kind to your ears with “Bad Habits” also ranking in the top ten list of gentle tunes.

Other artists with songs for easy listening include Charlie Puth with ‘Light Switch’; A1 x J1 & Tion Wayne with ‘Night Away’; Luude with ‘Down Under’ and Jack Harlow with ‘Nail Tech’ all making the top five.

Although currently seventh in the top 40 chart, Sam Fender’s ‘Seventeen Going Under’ is rated as the hardest on your ears, with a decibel level of 62 during the chorus. George Ezra and Jax Jones also made the list of the loudest music for your ears.

Audiologist and Hidden Hearing Marketing Director Dolores Madden said that people can protect their hearing by listening to audio at a level of 60 decibels for no longer than 60 minutes at a time.

“As experts in this field, we want to teach prevention and early intervention to help care for their ears. Hearing enables us to get the best out of life and each other.

“Hidden Hearing is encouraging people to protect their hearing by turning the volume down on headphones, limiting exposure to loud sounds and getting regular hearing check-ups,” Ms Madden advised.
