Gardaí seek witnesses to vicious city centre assault on woman

Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leetch

GARDAÍ have renewed their appeal for witnesses to an assault of a woman who was repeatedly punched in the face by a man in Limerick City Centre.

Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch said the victim, in her early twenties, had been out socialising with friends between 1.20am and 1.30am on Sunday, May 29 when she was assaulted by a man who was on his own.

She said the victim was “brought to hospital and treated for a suspected broken nose and other facial injuries”.

“O’Connell Street is usually busy at that time on Sunday morning so we’re hopeful that someone saw what happened.

“Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses or motorists with dash camera footage in the area at that time to contact them on 061-212400,” Sgt Leetch added.
