SOCIAL Democrats councillor Shane Hickey-O’Mara quizzed the Council on why the footpath extension outside the Belltable Theatre at 69 O’Connell Street, which was initially proposed as part of the redevelopment works on O’Connell Street, was not completed.
Party colleague councillor Elisa O’Donovan also took the view that there is an urgent need to resurface footpaths outside the Belltable Theatre.
Cllr Hickey-O’Mara was informed at the monthly Metropolitan District meeting for April that Phase 1 of the O’Connell Street improvements brought the new scheme as far as the junction with Cecil Street.
The Council told the meeting that preliminary designs have been prepared for Phase 2 of the O’Connell Street works and a Part 8 Planning process will be required.
This is subject to funding.
