Bookies favour Limerick to win four-in-a-row

Gearoid Hegarty is favourite for the player of the year title.

NO SOONER had Limerick hurlers secured their third All-Ireland in a row than the bookies were making them favourites to win the MacCarthy Cup again next year.

The Treaty men beat Kilkenny 1-31 to 2-26 in a thrilling contest at Croke Park recording their first three-in-a-row watched by an attendance of 82,000 in Croke Park.

An early goal from Gearoid Hegarty got the reigning champions off to the perfect start but Brian Cody’s side wouldn’t back down with goals from Martin Keoghan and Billy Ryan in the second half.

Limerick were just too good at the end however and BoyleSports have reported that their odds have already been trimmed into 4/5 from 10/11 to win the 2023 All-Ireland title.

Gearoid Hegarty has been hammered into 11/2 from 16/1 to be named the Hurler of the Year with Diarmaid Byrnes the favourite after his odds were cut into 4/6 from 4/1 following a brilliant performance.

BoyleSports spokesperson Sarah Kinsella said that while Kilkenny threw everything they had at Limerick, John Keily’s side were just too strong.

“They have won the All-Ireland  title for the third year in a row and are already 4/5 from 10/11 favourites to win it again next year. The Cats are 7/1 while Galway are 6/1.

“It was a stunning season for Limerick but a bad result for us as we have been laying them to win the title ever since the betting was made available.”
