€20,000 allocated for Castleconnell playground extension

Fine Gael Councillor Michael Murphy.

THERE will be hopping, skipping and jumping aplenty with the news of a €20,000 funding allocation made by Limerick City and County Council to get the Castleconnell Playground extension project underway.

This funding was granted as part of the Development Contribution Scheme 2022 Allocations and consultants have now been appointed to design a major extension to the Castleconnell playground.

Castleconnell-based councillor Michael Murphy, along with his party colleague and Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell, have welcomed the €20,000 funding allocation.

According to Cllr Murphy, the first step required is for Limerick City and County Council to appoint consultants for the design of the playground extension.

“We will be looking to ensure that there is public consultation with local residents and families as part of this design process. We will continue to follow-up with Limerick City and County Council to ensure the extension project works get underway as quickly as possible,” he said.

“This will be a great enhancement to the playground in Castleconnell, which we are sure will be greatly enjoyed by families and children,” Cllr Murphy added.
Deputy O’Donnell said they had been working on the project for some time with local residents and families to ensure there is a playground in Castleconnell village that can accommodate the growing population of families and children in the area.
“Whilst the current playground has served the area over time, there is now a great need for a major extension of the facility,” he added.
