Limerick pensioner injured during violent burglary

GARDAÍ are currently investigating an aggravated burglary that took place in Kilmallock in the early hours of Saturday morning, which saw a pensioner injured by a burglar armed with a slash hook.

The homeowner was awoken at 5am on Saturday morning after hearing noise downstairs; he then discovered a burglar, who was wearing a balaclava, in his home.

The brave pensioner chased the burglar outside onto the driveway, where he came upon a second burglar armed with a slash hook.

A scuffle broke out between the men and the homeowner suffered injuries to his arm.

The burglars smashed a back window in the house before escaping.

Gardaí are appealing for information from anyone who was in the Deebert/Kilmallock area at approximately 5am last Saturday morning, August 6, who may have witnessed anything unusual. Anyone with information can contact Bruff Gardaí at 061 382940.
