Adult learners celebrate success at LCETB

Almost 30 adult learners celebrated their Leaving Certificate exam success this year at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s College of Further Education and Training, Kilmallock Road Campus.

The highly successful programme has been delivered to adult learners in Limerick City for over 25 years and has an excellent record for progression to further education and training, higher education, and employment. The programme is delivered over one year and a wide range of subjects is offered.

Among those receiving their results this year was Kamal from County Limerick, who previously sat the Leaving Cert in 2021 but did not receive the points he wanted.

This year Kamal exceeded his target CAO points and intends to start a degree in business at University of Limerick.

Many young people may feel they have struggled to reach their potential in the Leaving Cert due to Covid-19 and its associated lockdowns. They may welcome the opportunity to repeat like Kamal in one year. The fully-funded programme can help participants raise their CAO points or qualify in a subject they require for progression.

The campus also welcomes those who may not have previously completed the Leaving Certificate. Siobhán from Limerick City left school early but realised she needed a Leaving Certificate qualification to access the job she wanted.

Having completed the programme in one year, she is now ready to apply for jobs with a number of top employers in Limerick.

The programme is not aimed at those seeking very high points but rather at those who underachieved or disengaged with the Leaving Certificate, for whatever reason, the first time around.

At the Kilmallock Road Campus, a friendly adult learning environment with high levels of support for each individual learner is offered. To find out more about the Leaving Certificate programme, email pat.mcinerney@lcetb.ie or phone 061 578 100.
