Five arrested over assault of Limerick man who died in hospital

The late Dylan McCarthy

GARDAÍ are questioning five men in connection with an assault on Kilmallock man Dylan McCarthy in County Kildare last month.

The 29 year-old died shortly after he sustained serious injuries during the alleged assault outside a pub in Monasterevin on August 21.

Mr McCarthy’s father, Eamon, was treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries allegedly sustained during the same incident.

The father and son had been attending a family gathering following the birth of Dylan McCarthy’s nephew Liam, when an alleged altercation occurred involving a group of people.

In a statement issued earlier today, a Garda spokesman said that “as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident of serious assault in Monasterevin on August 21, Gardaí arrested five men this morning.
