Interesting outcomes in Munster Junior Cup 

Young Munster are gaining momentum in defence of their Munster Junior Cup title.

HOLDERS Young Munster easily made the fourth round of the Munster Junior Cup with a 43-10 away win at St. Mary’s. 

Peter Hickey scored two tries for the winners, while there was one each for Kian Sheehy, Jack Lyons, and Kelvin Brosnahan, while Mar O’Mara kicked five conversions and a penalty. 

Garryowen won a thrilling game at Dooradoyle after a 32-23 victory over Old Christians, that saw the lead change hands on numerous occasions. Tommy O’Hora, Dean Fanning, Sam Farage, Ben O’Sullivan, Hugh O’Brien-Cuningham, and Florian Byrnes grabbed tries for Garryowen.

In Tipperary, Newcastle West defeated Clanwilliam 31-21. Evan Donovan, Seán Ivess, Seamus Murphy, and David O’Donovan scored tries for Newcastle West. Alex O’Halloran kicked three penalties and a conversion. 

Trailing 14-7 at halftime, Abbeyfeale dominated the second half to defeat Midleton 22-14. Michael Kilbridge, Gearoid Scannell, Jamie O’Sullivan, and John Forde had tries for Abbeyfeale, and Seán Kilbridge added one conversion.

Galbally-Mitchelstown defeated Dungarvan 40-5. Pat Molloy, Dylan O’Gorman, Graham Burke (2), and Pat Shanahan were the winners’ try scorers. They were also awarded a penalty try. John Kearins kicked a penalty and a conversion, and Shanahan also added a penalty.

Old Crescent lost to Mallow, 28-26.

Cashel defeated UL Bohemian 25-15 in the Munster Junior Plate.

After a good start to their Division 2A All Ireland League outing in Ballymena on Saturday, Old Crescent led 14-0 after 30 minutes, but in the end had to settle for a losing bonus point after their 22-18 defeat. David Rickard, Cathal O’Reilly, and Joe Rickard scored tries for the Limerick side and Ronan McKenna kicked two conversions.

UL Bohemian had a 33-5 away win at Suttonians in the Women’s All Ireland Cup Series.
