No joy for UL on the sporting front

UL Sigerson Cup football manager Declan Brouder.

UL SUFFERED a couple of agonising defeats last night when their footballers and soccer players lost out in their respective All-Ireland finals.

In the Sigerson Cup Colleges Football Final, UL – which included only John Hayes (St. Kieran’s) of Limerick in their star-studded team – lost after extra-time, 1-16 to 0-16 against UCC in Waterford.

In fairness, after a keenly contested regular time affair, UCC were the better in those extra-time periods.

UL were managed by Declan Brouder of Newcastle West.

In the Collingwood Cup Soccer Final, UL were squeezed-out by a later winner in a 3-2 defeat to UCD in Larne, County Antrim.

The opening-half produced no goals, but there was no shortage on that front in the closing period.

UCD swapped goals with Tom Carney and Adam Foley as the contest appeared destined for extra-time, only for Ronan Cowhey to grab the headlines with his stoppage time strike.
