Limerick reservoir work may lead to discoloured water supply

Irish Water Limerick Operations Manager Duane O'Brien.

MAINTENANCE work at the Newcastle Reservoir in Limerick City may lead to a discolouration in the water supply to homes and businesses in the reservoir catchment area over the next two weeks.

Because of network changes to facilitate the maintenance work, discolouration of the water supply occurred in the Raheen and South West areas of the city on Wednesday.

The work, which is being undertaken by Uisce Éireann on behalf of  Limerick City and County Council, is scheduled to continue until Friday, March 17.

If discolouration occurs, it may be intermittent and take up to 48 hours to clear across the network. Householders are advised to run the kitchen tap for a few minutes to see if the water returns to a clear colour.

Uisce Éireann Operations Lead Duane O’Brien said the scheduled maintenance works are necessary to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply to Limerick City and its environs.
