Extra €200 cost of living support on way for welfare recipients

Limerick Fianna Fáil TD Willie O'Dea.

AN EXTRA €200 will be paid to long-term social welfare recipients in the coming week along with their usual payment.

1.3 million people are set to receive the payment countrywide on April 24, including people on carers allowance, disability allowance, working family payment, and pensions.

Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea welcomed the additional payment due to the increased cost of living leaving people across the county in difficult situations.

“The cost of living pressures are continuing to affect people right across this country. In February, the government announced over €410 million in additional supports to be paid to families in the coming months.

“This €200 lump sum payment is the first of these measures and will be followed in June by an extra €100 per child for people receiving Child Benefit,” he said.

People who are eligible for the extra €200 cost of living support will get the bonus on the same day that their usual payment comes in.

Deputy O’Dea said that families will also receive extra supports during the summer.

“Parents who receive the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance will also get an additional €100 for each child this summer.
“For a child aged from 4 to 11 years, the payment will be €260 and for children aged 12 to 22 years it will be €385,” he concluded.
