Cappamore man to represent Ireland at World Cup of Darts

WILLIAM O’Connor – nicknamed ‘The Magpie’ – of Cappamore and Keane Barry of Meath are Ireland’s pairing at the £450,000 (€523,998) 2023 World Cup of Darts, taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, from Thursday through to Sunday.

Forty teams are involved, with Australia (Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock) viewed as live contenders to retain their title. Though world number one Michael Smith and Rob Cross of England also appear serious contenders.

The winners’ prize is £80,000 (€93,226).

O’Connor (36) has won close on £140,000 (€163,064) this season and is placed inside the Top 40 in the World Standings.

With earnings of around £130,000 (€151,391), thirty-year-old Barry is just a few places behind his teammate in the global rankings.
