LIMERICK entertain Laois in the quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup (second-tier All-Ireland Senior Football Championship) at the TUS Gaelic Grounds this coming Saturday at 3pm.

GAAGO will have live coverage of the fixture.

Having lost manager Ray Dempsey mid-season, Limerick have managed away well under interim boss Mark Fitzgerald, most especially in the Tailteann, with merited wins over Longford and Carlow to top their group.

It’s from a full deck that Fitzgerald will select, with only a few attacking positions up for decision.

Donal O’Sullivan and Iain Corbett continue in their joint-captaincy role.

To reach this stage, Laois shocked Fermanagh at the weekend. It was an outing in which Evan O’Carroll, Paul Kingston, Mark Barry all landed three points for the winners. Thus Messrs O’Carroll, Kingston, and Barry are players to be guarded closely by the likes of Seán O’Dea, Brian Fanning, and Paul Maher.

In the other quarter-finals Meath are home to Wexford, Cavan entertain Down, and Carlow are visitors to Antrim.

Both semi-finals and final of the competition will go ahead at Croke Park on Sunday week (June 25), with live television coverage of those fixtures most likely.

Contrary to these pages last week, Limerick (represented then by Limerick Commercials) have won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on two occasions, not just the once.

Commercials claimed the titles of both 1887 and 1896, under the respective captaincies of Denis Corbett and Con Fitzgerald.
