“Investigations are ongoing,” the Garda spokesman said.

The incident has sparked heightened tensions in the area following a number of incidents, including one man being injured in a bombing on the Hyde Road last month (July 15).

A man, aged in this 30s, sustained injuries to his arm at the time when the device went off.

Speaking after the incident, the Gardaí said they attended the scene of a “viable device”.

Earlier in June, there were also reports of a drive-by shooting on Hyde Road.

Shots were reportedly discharged from a firearm from a car driving by a house on Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston, on Sunday June 4.

It was understood that there were a number of people in the house at the time, but no injuries were reported.

And on May  15, another shooting was reported on Hyde Road.

No injuries were reported in that incident, which happened at approximately 11.30am on Monday May 15.
