€1million in cannabis seized at Shannon Airport

An estimated €1million in herbal cannabis was seized at Shannon Airport destined for an address in Limerick City.

REVENUE officers based at Shannon Airport seized 50kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €1million last Thursday resulting from a risk profiling operation.

The drugs were discovered in cargo consignments, manifested as ‘animal feed’, originating from Switzerland and destined for an address in Limerick.

The seizure was part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs and comes on the heels of an unconnected recent operation by Gardaí conducting searches in the Kings Island area of the city, in which €100,000 worth of crack cocaine and other drugs were seized.

Investigation’s into last week’s cannabis seizure are ongoing according to a statement issued by Revenue.
