‘Never gonna run around with dessert spoons’

RICK Astley has re-recorded his iconic single ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ using lyrics people have misheard for years in a new partnership with Specsavers to encourage people to get proactive about hearing loss.

This comes as Rick reveals he is living with hearing loss and news that almost one in 10 people think Astley’s biggest hit contains the line: “Never gonna run around with dessert spoons.”

According to Specsavers’ research into hearing loss, 17 per cent of people blame misheard song lyrics on hearing difficulties, while just under half experience difficulty in hearing conversations over background noise.

“I had great fun re-recording the song with Specsavers and discovering the amusing ways people have misheard my song.

“I’ve noticed my hearing changing over time so recently had a hearing test at Specsavers. It showed I have some hearing loss, which I was not fully aware of,” said Astley, who shared that he had just received his first pair of hearing aids from Specsavers.

Those who feel their hearing is changing are encouraged to book a free hearing test at Specsavers to stay in tune with the sounds they love. Early intervention can transform lives and Specsavers hearing experts can help find the right hearing aids to suit all needs and lifestyles.
