Defeats for local top-flight AIL teams

SHANNON suffered a heavy 43-24 home loss to Cork Constitution in Division 1A of the AIL at Thomond Park. 

The winners scored six tries with Dan Hurley, Gus Harrington, and David Maher as try scorers for Shannon, who were also awarded a penalty try. Mike Cooke kicked one conversion.

Young Munster still remain in the relegation zone after their 26-24 defeat by UCD at Belfield. Stephen McLoughlin, Alan Kennedy, and Donnchadh O’Callaghan were try scorers for Young Munster. Shane O’Leary converted all three and also added a penalty.

In 1B, Garryowen who led Naas 38-10 at half time were defeated 41-38 by the Kildare side. Jack Oliver scored two tries and four conversions for the Dooradoyle side, and Donnacha Byrne, Liam Coombes, Bryan Fitzgerald, and Oran McNulty got one each.

In 1C, Cashel remain in second place four points behind the leaders after their 31-7 home win against UL Bohemian. Joe Johnson grabbed a five-pointer for Bohs, which Harry Byrne converted.

Elsewhere, a try in the last play of the game earned Old Crescent a bonus point 28-27 away win at Banbridge which sees them move out of the relegation zone. Evan Conlon scored two tries and Cathal Monaghan one, with Ronan McKenna converting all four tries.

Meanwhile, Bruff slipped down to fourth place in Division 2C after their 36-20 home defeat by leaders Clogher Valley. John O’Dea and Shane Duggan scored tries for Bruff and Sean Kilbridge converted both and also added two penalties.
