Call for safety measures on St Patrick’s Road

FIANNA Fáil’s Willie O’Dea TD and Cllr Catherine Slattery are calling for safety measures on St Patrick’s Road.

The road, they told the Limerick Post, has many housing estates branching out of it, with high volumes of traffic.

“We are making strong representations to Limerick City Council and we have been successful in getting the footpaths resurfaced from the junction of Ballysimon Road to St Bridget’s Church and there will be junction tightening at the entrance to Lynwood, Granville, and Norwood Park,” Cllr Slattery explained.

Deputy O’Dea said they are now calling on the Council to resurface the footpath from Hilltop past Hillcroft/Aspen Gardens and to tighten up the junctions leading into Garryowen, Hilltop, Hillcroft/Aspen Gardens, and Churchfield so that speed in the area is reduced and children and adults can walk to school and work safely with the proper infrastructure in their area.

In response, a spokesman for the Council said that “Limerick City and County Council are currently working on new improved footpaths from St Brigid’s Church to Ballysimon Road. Active Travel are currently reviewing a further scheme north of this area following Cllr Slattery’s request, which will be require NTA approval and funding availability.”
