DAN Morrissey has been named by Limerick boss John Kiely as captain for Sunday’s Munster Senior Hurling League opener with Cork in Mallow (2pm).

The Ahane legend is selected in a full-back line that includes debutant Emmet McEvoy of county champions Na Piarsaigh and Effin’s Fergal O’Connor.

Morrissey is the only player from the side that started last year’s All-Ireland Final on the team.

Two substitutes from that auspicious day, however, in Barry Murphy and Cathal O’Neill, are on the starting blocks, hinting that Kiely is eager to test fresh blood as the year begins.

Limerick: David McCarthy (Glenroe), Emmet McEvoy, Dan Morrissey, Fergal O’Connor; Mark Quinlan (Garryspillane), Ronan Connolly (Adare), Ciarán Barry (Ahane); Barry Murphy (Doon), Colin Coughlan (Ballybrown); Mícheál Houlihan (Kilmallock), Patrick O’Donovan (Effin), Cathal O’Neill (Crecora/Manister); Donnacha Ó  (Monaleen), Shane O’Brien (Kilmallock), Adam English (Doon).
