Limerick writer invited to celebrate James Joyce’s birthday in Paris

Limerick writer Brendan Lynch was invited to celebrate James Joyce's birthday and the publication of his book in Paris.

A LIMERICK writer was invited to Paris to celebrate the birthday of one of Ireland’s most well-known authors.

Abbeyfeale-born writer Brendan Lynch was invited to celebrate James Joyce’s birthday (February 2) in Parisian style for the launch of his book, Dublin’s Graftonia, a literary history at 12 rue de l’Odeon, Paris, where Joyce’s Ulysses was first published in 1922.

Jean Helferm, who owns the Moicani Boutique in Paris (which replaced the famous Shakespeare and Company bookshop), said: ‘It is very appropriate that an Irish author whose new book ends with James Joyce sailing into exile in 1909 should launch his new book here.”

Another writer who sojourned in Paris was the pioneering Limerick novelist Kate O’Brien.
