GARDAÍ in Limerick are highlighting how important having a watchful neighbour can be from a crime prevention point of view.

On April 4 at around 12.50am, a man in his 30s saw a car acting suspiciously in his housing estate in Raheen.

The man called Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station who came to the estate, according to Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

The Gardaí met the witness who said he had seen three men clad in balaclavas run from the rear of his neighbour’s house.

Gardaí then called to the house where they met the women who lived there.

According to Sergeant Leetch, the woman said she thought she heard a noise at the back of her house. When Gardaí checked, they saw a mark on the back door from a tool.

Sergeant Leetch said it “was clear that these males were attempting to break into her house”.

“It was the neighbour that prevented the burglary, firstly because he was observant but secondly because he rang local Gardaí,” the sergeant advised.

“If you see something suspicious in your neighbourhood, be a good neighbour and inform your local Gardaí.”
