Man in his 60s killed in fatal crash in Rathkeale

A MAN has died following a tragic crash in the town of Rathkeale, west County Limerick, on Tuesday night (February 18).

It is understood the man, aged in his 60s, was found in a serious condition in a car in Rathkeale, and Gardaรญ are investigating a number of lines of enquiry.

One line of enquires includes that the man may have suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel of the car.

It does not appear that any other vehicle was involved in the fatal crash.

A Garda spokeswoman said Gardaรญ were โ€œalerted to a fatal road traffic incident that occurred on Lower Main Street, Rathkeale, County Limerick, on the night of Tuesday 18th February, 2025โ€.

โ€œAt approximately 10pm, Gardaรญ assisted emergency services at the scene. A man, aged in his 60s, was removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced deceased.โ€

The Garda spokeswoman explained that โ€œa post mortem examination will take place in due course”, and said that no other injuries were reported from the incident.

She added that โ€œinvestigations are ongoingโ€ into the fatality.
