28 PRIMARY schools in Limerick are to benefit from the expansion of the hot school meals programme.

This comes following an expansion of the programme from government which will see 2,850 schools across the country eligible to receive nutritious hot meals delivered daily.

An additional 131,700 children will receive a hot meal during school time under the announcement, bringing the total number of meals delivered daily to 475,000.

Limerick TD Niall Collins welcomed the announcement, saying “it has helped so many schools and families in Limerick and what we (in government) are focused on now is ensuring that suppliers adhere to robust guidelines on the nutritional value of meals and the dietary requirements of students”.
