Two arrested after major cannabis seizure in Meelick

TWO people are being questioned by Gardaí this Thursday morning (May 8) after authorities seized cannabis with an estimated value of between €7million and €10million in south east County Clare.

The drugs were recovered in the Meelick area, a short distance from the Limerick border.

The seizure was part of a planned joint operation led by Revenue and Customs officials and Gardaí attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, supported by colleagues attached to the Limerick Garda Divisional Drugs Unit and Gardaí in County Clare.

Two people are being detained in connection with the drugs seizure.

One person is being held at a Garda station in Limerick, the other is being detained in County Clare.

Sources said the investigation was “ongoing”.

A spokesperson at Revenue said a statement would be issued later on today. Gardaí were asked for comment.
