A man has been arrested after gardai hit the operations of a County Limerick drug gang and seized an estimated €800,000 worth of drugs, and over €100,000 cash, today, Wednesday.

The drug dealing operation was uncovered at Old Pallas, south east County Limerick, and Gardaí suspect it has links to drug dealing gangs in Limerick city.

The planned, intelligence-led search and seizure operation conducted by the Limerick Garda Divisional Drugs Unit took place at two locations, beginning around 11am, and concluding this evening.

The drugs uncovered included approximately half a million euro worth of heroin, as well as an estimated €300,000 worth of cannabis and tablets.

The Limerick Garda drugs squad unit, which was supported by the Garda Armed Support Unit (ASU), recovered in excess of €100,000 in the search operation.

A 29 year old man was arrested by Gardaí and is being questioned in connection with the drugs and cash seizure.

Garda sources said the search and seizure formed part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels – international, national and local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
